Are lab-grown / created diamonds real diamonds?

Yes, lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds. They have the same chemical and physical properties as natural diamonds and are made of pure carbon, with the same crystal structure and chemical composition as natural diamonds.

The only difference between lab-grown diamonds and natural diamonds is the way they are formed. Natural diamonds are formed deep within the Earth and mined consuming a lot of time and energy. Whereas created diamonds are a more efficient and sustainable choice for nature.

Because lab-grown diamonds are virtually indistinguishable from natural diamonds, they are considered to be just as valuable and desirable as natural diamonds, but with the added benefits of being more sustainable and cost-effective.

Who buys lab grown diamonds?

Lab-grown diamonds are becoming increasingly popular and are purchased by a wide range of consumers. Some common types of buyers of lab-grown diamonds include:

  1. Ethical and eco-conscious consumers who prefer to buy sustainable and environmentally friendly products.
  2. Price-conscious consumers who want a diamond with the same quality as a natural diamond but at a lower cost.
  3. Tech-savvy consumers who appreciate the science and technology behind lab-grown diamonds.
  4. Fashion-forward consumers who are looking for a unique and modern alternative to traditional natural diamonds.
  5. Jewellery designers and manufacturers who use lab-grown diamonds in their designs to offer a wider range of options to their customers.
  6. Some buyers of lab-grown diamonds may also be looking for diamonds with specific characteristics, such as a particular colour or clarity, which may be more difficult to find in natural diamonds.

Overall, lab-grown diamonds are becoming more mainstream and are appealing to a growing segment of consumers who value sustainability, affordability, and innovation.

How much cheaper are lab-grown diamonds?

The cost of lab-grown diamonds can vary depending on various factors such as size, quality, and colour, but they are generally less expensive than natural diamonds of similar quality. In general, lab-grown diamonds can be up to 50% to 30% less expensive than natural diamonds of comparable quality.

The exact price difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds can vary depending on the specific diamonds being compared. However, the cost savings of lab-grown diamonds can make them an attractive option for consumers who want a high-quality diamond but don't want to pay the premium price of a natural diamond.

What is the resale value of lab grown / created diamonds?

The resale value of lab-grown diamonds can vary depending on a number of factors, including the quality and size of the diamond, market demand, and the policies of the retailer or seller.

In general, lab-grown diamonds may have a lower resale value compared to natural diamonds. This is because natural diamonds are rare and have a long history of being highly valued, while lab-grown diamonds are a relatively new product and may not yet have the same perceived value or market demand.

However, the resale value of lab-grown diamonds may improve as they become more widely accepted and demand for them increases. Additionally, the resale value of lab-grown diamonds may vary depending on the specific buyer and seller, and how much they are willing to pay for a particular diamond.

Overall, the resale value of lab-grown diamonds may not be as high as that of natural diamonds, but they can still be a good investment for those who prioritise factors such as ethical sourcing and environmental sustainability.

Do lab-grown/ created diamonds test as real diamonds?

Yes, lab-grown diamonds are chemically and physically identical to mined diamonds, and they test as diamonds using the same tests and equipment used to test mined diamonds.

Lab-grown diamonds have the same crystal structure and chemical composition as mined diamonds, and they are made of pure carbon. This means that they have the same properties as natural diamonds, including hardness, refractive index, and dispersion.

Overall, lab-grown diamonds are virtually indistinguishable from natural diamonds and are considered to be just as valuable and desirable.
